NOT FAIR!!!

My heart is breaking...

My every waking moment when I am not thinking of my kids my thoughts immediately shift to my Kendra, Ryan, and their precious baby girl Makenzie. Their whole life has been turned upside down and they have HUGE things going on. Makenzie has been diagnosed with SMA (which is the #1 genetic killer in infants) she is in the PICU at Primary Childrens and hooked up to every machine there is. I have been wanting to go see them since they got to the Hospital last tuesday, but with everything they've had have going on and all of their family up there with them and with Emma getting sick it just hasn't worked. But I was able to go up and finally see them last night. I've just wanted to hug Kendra so bad- so as soon as I saw her I just squeezed her and never wanted to let go! It was so touching to see all their family up there just in support of them- they are surrounded by a huge amount of love and care, its amazing!

It is NOT fair, every time I look at Brady and I just start crying because watching him at how well he holds his head up, wants to stand and sit up all the time, and much more... because I'm thinking about how little sweet Kenzie wont ever be able to do those things. And to just think 12 days ago, she spent the day at my house and was perfect! Smiling, eating, napping, and playing with her boyfriend.
If I didn't have my motherly, work, and wife responsibilities I swear I'd be up there every waking moment to the point of them wanting me leave and never come back.
After Emma's doctor appointment I plan to go up and see them again today...

God this isn't fair! Kenzie needs to be at home in her mom's arms and the perfectly healthy girl we all thought she was and deserves to be.

update/correction

The doctor called last night with Emma's blood culture results... Bacteria in her blood- which means it wasn't 'Viral Pneumonia' like they diagnosed her with... More like Bacteria Pneumonia (they thought they ruled out in the ER) which isn't good. That means we need to keep a close eye on her over the next few days and if she spikes another fever, means right back up to the ER. But for now just keep on her antibiotic and a follow up doctor appointment this afternoon with another shot. :(

looongg night!

Yesterday Emma and myself spent all morning and afternoon in the Primary Childrens Emergency Room then were admitted into the Childrens Medical Unit about 6:00 pm and spent the night there and were luckily discharged this afternoon.

-History-
Last Tuesday (10th) she woke up with a bad fever and cold symptoms. We took her to her doctor and he assumed she had the flu and started her on a 5 day antibiotic. Her fever broke Thursday (12th) and finished her last dose on the 15th. Since her fever broke she has been a normal 3 year old kid, nothing out of the ordinary.

-Story-

(Now, I WARN you that if your not all that interested in her trip to hospital, do not bother reading the rest... I wrote way too much (probably for a blog) but couldn't help it. I'm a mom. :) )

So, Friday we spent the day running errands, Emma going to school, taking Family pictures, and going to dinner with family. Everyone was healthy and acting fine.

Saturday morning Emma crawled in bed with us at 4:30 (she said nothing) and then we were all up at 6:30. I got out of the shower and Derek told me Emma had a 103 degree temperature and complaining of a stomach ache. So we got her all cuddled up in our bed with her pillows and blankets so she could just rest and get feeling better. I was headed off to work and thinking that I could just go and work a couple hours and come home to tend to my sick girl. About 10 minutes before I was supposed to walk out the door Emma threw up all over the bed (and this girl NEVER throws up). I figured there wasn't much I could do so I decided to run to work anyways and see how much work I could get in before my family needed me home. I got to work about 8:45 and started going about my business when Derek called me at 9:10 saying Emma was calling for me and wanted me home... I debated back and forth about leaving my manager high and dry or staying and working? Then Derek text me 5 minutes later saying COME HOME... more throwing up and 105 temperature. I then rushed home kissed my boys and scooped up Emma and took her temperature again -now at 106, I then threw in her the car and had my mom run us up to the ER. When we got back in a room they started checking her out and she had been grunting a little all morning, but it was just getting worse as we sat there. The ER doctor did not like the grunting, her tummy ache and the fact she had been sick the week before. They did a chest xray to rule out pneumonia and saw nothing. Then got her hooked up to an IV and start fluids because she was dehydrated and drew some blood. As we waited there for the doctor and some answers he stats started changing, her oxygen level was dropping and her blood pressure was elevated... The doctor finally came back in to a girl now hooked up to oxygen and trying to relax with all the lights off and said her white blood cell count was up at 27,000 and should only be about 10,000 so that told us she was fighting an infection somewhere. The doctor was thinking it was an Appendicitis with those results and they way her tummy felt. We waited fooorrreevvveerrr for the CT scan and finally the tech came to get us for the scan (in the mean time her oxygen levels started to come up and the oxygen wasn't mandatory but were still keeping an eye on her levels. She did awesome with holding super still for the scan and with everything they had to do to her to give her contrast 2 different times. Luckily the results came back and it wasn't an Appendicitis, but the doctor was still worried with the way things had progressed so rapidly from the morning and how high her white count was, even though Emma was acting and talking a little better. They then wanted to test for the flu, which meant sticking a tube up (and I mean WAY up) both nostrils (which she HATED) and made her sick everywhere. So they wanted to monitor her over night and admitted us into the hospital and moved us out of the ER and into a room upstairs. As soon as we got all settled in the room Emma started getting sick again and feeling really really yucky again (will not go into too many details). She was able to nap for a bit that evening and try to rest but nothing got any better. About 11:00 Em and I were trying to get some sleep but an alarm from her monitor started to go off and the Tech came in to see what was going on. Her breaths per minute were really high (over 75 and should only be about 30). And she was complaining that it was hurting to breath because she was just trying to get air too fast. Things didn't calm down, this went on for about at least an hour before more nurses came in to see what was really going on. They took her temperature and it had spiked back up to 104 again (not good) and they called the doctor. They doubled dosed her with Tylenol and Motrin to bring down her temp and try to help her breathing. In the meantime, they wanted more blood to do a culture on it to see if there is bacteria in her blood. Finally about 2:00 am her breathing started coming down a little and she was able to get some sleep and I tried as hard as I could to sleep, but not a whole lotta luck. We woke up this morning and saw a couple doctors and they wanted to her to be able to go home. Her stats stayed awesome from about 4:00 am until the time we left the hospital at 1:00 pm, so they discharged us with a diagnosis of Viral Pneumonia and Hypoxia and still pending results of her blood cultures and flu test and to start her on an antibiotic. We'll follow up with her doctor either tmrw or Tuesday to get her results and see what our next step is...

Emma is doing much better today and is so glad to be home and done with the doctors, needles, and tests. I am tired, because you DO NOT sleep when your baby is in the Hospital, but missed my boys! (My first night away from Brady, I never expected it would've been under those circumstances but I wouldn't have been anywhere else than by my Emma's side)

Halloween '09

Our Halloween festivites started out with Miss Em dressing up for school on Friday, she was SO excited she got to wear her costume to school! And believe it or not with 6 total girls in her class 4 of them were Snow White! (No other Princess' just Snow White)
It was fun to see all the different dresses, I can't wait to see the picture their teacher took of all the Snow Whites.

Saturday we helped set up the Tailgate, ran some errands, hung out with Duckie, had some quiet time... THEN came getting dressed up and off to the Utah Tailgate Party we went... (But first we had to get some pictures of Snow White and our Floppy Puppy, of course!)

Emma loved (as always) running around and having fun with our Tailgating friends. Then we said farewell to Daddy and everyone else as they headed off to the game and we ventured home for some Trick or Treating around the neighborhood fun. Emma scored BIG time on the candy collecting and we only got to about 10 houses and yet we'll have candy that lasts us until after Christmas!
...After all the Tailgating/Trick or Treating fun... Poor little Sleepy Puppy!

Baby Emma & Baby Brady

Looking back at Emma's baby pictures is showing me how much her little brother is following in her foot steps with their looks. Their personalities are similiar but yet so different.

Similarities:
-Born with lots of full dark hair
-Started loosing their beautiful hair 2-3 months old
-SO serious most of the time, that when they smile it is that much greater
-Getting chunky starting at 2 months
(except Brady has a good 2 almost 3 pound advantage than his sister did at this age)
-Tall for their age (Em - 75% Brady - 92%)
-LOOVVEESS to be outside and on the move.
Differences:
-Emma had dark brown eyes, Brady has bright blue eyes
-Emma wore Newborn clothes and diapers through 3 months old and 3-6 months clothes until 8-9 months old. Brady filled his Newborn clothes and diapers the day he came home and at almost 3 months old he is filling out his 6 month clothing and size 2 diapers!
-Brady is awake and ready to eat every 2 hours no matter what. We either had to wake Emma up to eat or remind her it was time to eat
-Emma loved the bottle! Brady not so much...
(I didn't want Emma to like the bottle that much, and we wanting Brady to take the bottle here and there since I am now back at work)
-Emma was content with just about anyone who held her. Brady tends to be on the picky side lately, he loves Mom!
-Emma loved her bouncer anytime, Brady does okay but he would rather be sitting up checking out the world (he loves his Bumbo seat)
-Emma was sleeping 5-7 hours by the time she was 2-4 weeks old. Brady struggled with sleeping more than 3 hours just until recently.
I could go on and on!

So I tried to recreate one of our favorite shots of Emma with Brady the other day, it's similar but not exact.
(Both started balding on the same side!)

Disneyland!!!!

Dear Disneyland,

Our trip came and went too fast but we had a blast! Thank you for all the great rides, memories, good weather, and fun times. Emma was in heaven, she was SO busy and in overload the whole time. She went 16 hours in the park one day without a nap, she was amazing! Brady was an awesome traveler and for his first time on an airplane he did AMAZING (just like his big sister)! Derek and Em had some good times just running off the two of them and saw and did a lot of fun stuff, I enjoyed just watching the two of them enjoy the park and each other. It was fun being able to have my parents come with us so they could see how much Miss Em loves Disneyland, they had a good time as well (I think?) :).

Thanks again for the great vacation and the countdown is already on for the next trip!
Until next year...
Love, Us!
